Description

North Pacific, Hawaii, Honokaa, ca. mid to late 20th century CE. An elegant ensemble of 3 koa wood dishes, each boasting a circular form and smoothly sculpted walls with a stunning natural woodgrain in shimmering hues of golden caramel and butterscotch. The first vessel displays a round yet stable base and thick walls that gently rise to a circular rim. The underside of the dish features a carved inscription that reads "Brantley Center / Honokaa, Hawaii / Koa / 1980." Alternatively, the last 2 examples each exhibit flat forms that dramatically rise and curve inward at their peripheries to low rims. Size (of largest): 11.4" in diameter x 0.4" H (29 cm x 1 cm)

The consignor of this lot and Artemis Gallery will donate 100% of proceeds to the Brantley Center in Honokaa, Hawaii. The Brantley Center is a non-profit Community Rehabilitation Program located in Honokaa, Hawaii that serves to empower people with special needs to participate independently within their community via vocational skills education, job-readiness classes, and training in independent living skills.
