Description
**Originally Listed At $300**
Central America, Guatemalan, Totonicapan, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A whimsical glazed pottery vessel with an arching handle, and a zoomorphic head that forms the spout. The vessel rests on a slightly rounded, but stable base with a large globular body, protruding wings and tail, and applied and incised linear and dotted motifs across the body to indicate feathers. A bird head protrudes from the front with a gaping open beak, forming the wide spout. The exterior is coated with a glaze that varies from olive-green to an orange hue. Dark black burnishing marks cover much of the lower surface. An intriguing vintage piece likely inspired by the forms of ancient stirrup vessels! Size: 8" W x 8.5" H (20.3 cm x 21.6 cm)
Provenance: ex-House of Ancestors, Galisteo, New Mexico, USA
