Title: Plains beaded buffalo fetish, mid to late 20th century,

Description: Plains beaded buffalo fetish, mid to late 20th century, 3.5” x 5”. Plain tribes traditionally made beaded fetishes to hold a baby’s umbilical cord after it fell off. The fetish was first a cradle toy, then tied to the child’s clothing and kept as a lifelong protection against evil and misfortune. This decorative example made for sale is backed with a piece of bison hide complete with short tan hair.
