Description
DESCRIPTION: Portrait of George Washington. Circa. 1850. Engraved by John Sartain after the original painting by James Peale. Around portrait reads "His Excel. G. Washington Esq. L.L.D. Late Commander in Chief of the Armies of the U.S. of America & President of the Convention of 1787." Mezzotint and stipple on cream wove paper. PROVENANCE: From a Philadelphia family. The consignor is a direct descendant of Mary Rittenhouse (1795-1873). MEASUREMENTS: 8" high x 6-1/4" wide. Overall 15-1/4" high x 13-1/4" wide. CONDITION: Loss of gilt and part of frame, discoloration to mat board. Engraving in very good condition. IMPORTANT: Before bidding, please read the terms and conditions.
