Description
DESCRIPTION: A Martin Shreiner (1769-1866) eight day tall case clock in the Chippendale to Federal transitional style and numbered 44. In Stacey WoodÂ’s "Important Monograph on Lancaster Clocks", he notes that clock number 37 is dated 1794. This clock being just seven numbers away places the date circa 1800. The walnut case consists of small Chippendale bracket feet supporting a square base with central panel. The narrow waist with tombstone door rises to a full hood with tombstone-shaped side windows, full columns, a delicate swan crest and three urns. Beneath the central urn is a tapered keystone. The case probably Lancaster city or possibly Manheim. The painted dial with the name of the clockmaker and the number of the movement. Works located behind are consistent with known Shreiner clock movements. PROVENANCE: Per the consignor, purchased June 23 1993 from the Willis R. Michael Collection sold by Yorktowne Auction Co catalogue 730. MEASURMENTS: 100" high x 21" wide at base x 12" deep at base. CONDITION: Running, keeps good time. Case with repaired feet. Surface wear consistent with age. IMPORTANT: Before bidding, please read the terms and conditions. When you registered for the auction you agreed to these terms and will be required to comply with them.
