Description

DESCRIPTION: Federal paint decorated softwood blanket chest. Probably Pennsylvania, first half of the 19th century. Refined cabinetry maker and folk art decorator. Recessed carved panels on all four sides of the case. Front has a pair of matching cock-beaded drawers directly above bottom molding. Interior with till. Paint decoration on lid with two large eagles facing with painted surrounds. Front with stenciled urns and flowers. Original brasses and hardware. PROVENANCE: Belonged to consignors Grandfather (b. 1887) who lived in Danville, Pennsylvania. MEASUREMENTS: 30-1/2" high x 46-1/4" wide x 21" deep. CONDITION: Wear consistent with age.
