Description
1787 System of SURGERY Benjamin Bell Scottish Medicine OPIUM Illustrated Elliot 4v
Benjamin Bell was an 18th-century Scottish surgeon, often considered to be the most important surgeon from Scotland. He published ‘System of Surgery’ – an English handbook designed to teach surgery and various aspects of pain relief. Controversially, Bell was an advocate for the use of opium as a means of pain management.
According to Garrison-Morton,
“Bell improved the methods of amputation, introducing the ‘triple incision of Bell… [System of Surgery] is his best work”.
This 1787 edition features impressive, full-page engravings of patients, surgical tools, operations and procedures, and much more!
