This lot consists of a framed oil painting on canvas, done in the haunting Expressionist style of Edvard Munch (Norwegian, 1863-1944). A hand-painted inscription at lower right corner reads, "E. Munch". Overall framed measurements approximately 13" x 16.5".

This brooding, atmospheric image portrays a huddled pair of figures standing at a murky water's edge. They are quietly linked in a cool and moody scene.

Reverse side of piece features a black wax seal and several graphite inscriptions, which appear to be former catalogue or reference numbers.

Edvard Munch (Norwegian, 1863-1944) was one of the most distinguished painters of the 20th century. Munch uninhibitedly delved into the darkest depths of his own psychological and emotional spectrums, producing works that still haunt and delight the senses. Munch was closely connected with Expressionism, a modernist art movement that radically distorts reality in order to convey a very real thought or feeling.
