Antique West African Carved Ivory Warrior Totem | The statue is sculpted and stained/dyed brown | The totem depicts a seated tribal warrior or chief, dressed with armor, helmet, and weapons, sitting atop a totem carved with four different levels. Immediately beneath the warrior are two captives or slain enemies with bound hands and feet. The third level contains what appear to be additional captives, one bound, kneeling in front of a large pot, appearing to cook. The fourth/bottom level shows seated figures eating. | Approx. Size: 13" H x 3.25" W x 3.5" D; Weight: 3.2 lbs.
Condition
To the best of our knowledge and belief, the sale of this item complies with the requirements of ESA §4(d), including that it was imported prior to 1990 and meets the ESA antiques exemption. This item was part of the Estate of Dr. Ora Eads, Phd, Nashville, Tennessee. The Ead's Ethnographic Art Collection included over 250 items of rare African Art, some of which were donated to Tennessee Tech University for a museum, and other pieces were made part of the Eads Museum (which was later absorbed into the Tennessee University museum network).
