Pre-Columbian, Peru, Central Coast, Chimu or Chancay cultures, ca. 900 to 1300 CE. A large textile panel comprised of finely woven camelid fibers in shades of red, tan, and black with large panel left reserved, decorated corners with confronting serpents in positive and reverse images, decorated fringe border now mostly obscured. Size of textile: 24" L x 24" W (61 cm x 61 cm); Size of frame: 40" L x 27" W x .5" H (101.6 cm x 68.6 cm x 1.3 cm)
Provenance: ex-private Ventura County, California, USA collection, acquired before 2000
