Southeast Asia, Thailand, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden coconut grater in the form of a recumbent rabbit. The reclining animal has retracted legs, a stocky body, a petite tail, and a raised head with a serrated iron grating tool held in the mouth. Traces of white and pink pigment are visible within some recessed areas, and smooth patina envelops the entire carving. Size: 19.7" L x 3.9" W x 6.375" H (50 cm x 9.9 cm x 16.2 cm)

Condition
Minor nicks and abrasions to body, head, and grating tool, with slight bending and encrustations to grating tool, and several stable fissures, otherwise intact and very good. Light earthen deposits, faint traces of original pigment, and smooth patina throughout. Old inventory label beneath base.
