Description
Southeast Asia, Thailand, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden coconut grater depicted in the form of a standing pig. The creature has a stocky body supported by a quartet of thick legs, a nubbin tail, folded ovoid ears, and a tapering conical head with a squat snout. An S-shaped grating tool with a serrated triangular head is secured within the 'mouth' of the animal. Fine coffee-hued patina has developed across most surfaces. Size: 17" L x 5.5" W x 6.75" H (43.2 cm x 14 cm x 17.1 cm).

Condition
Small losses along base, several stable fissures across body and head, with chalky encrustations across most surfaces, and expected oxidation to iron grating tool. Light earthen deposits as well as great brown patina throughout.
