**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Michoacan, Protoclassic Period, ca. 500 to 1000 CE. A wonderful hand-built pottery rattle vessel exhibiting a bulbous body and circular rim supported by 3 legs in the form of dog heads, each one hollow and containing a petite seed or bean that creates a lovely rattling sound when shaken. The fascinating canine heads each present a pointed snout, perky ears, and coffee bean eyes, as they face outward and downward while carrying the vessel above their necks. Boasting a vibrant hue of orange, the exterior of this intriguing vessel is adorned by cream-colored vertical and horizontal striations. Size: 5.875" in diameter x 6.125" H (14.9 cm x 15.6 cm)
Provenance: private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection; ex-Dr. David Harner collection, Springdale, Arkansas, USA, acquired between the 1950s and 1960s

Condition
Repaired from several pieces with restoration over break lines. Some restoration to rim and base. Nicks and abrasion, commensurate with age. Otherwise, very nice with lovely earthen deposits and impressive remaining pigments.
