John Gorse (1945-2020) of Charleston, SC. A business entrepreneurs, private collectors. A retired as senior vice president for legal and regulatory affairs in 1981. After retirement he focused his efforts on revitalizing the local area and philanthropy. His entrepreneurial drive continually motivated him to privately invest in real estate ventures and many other businesses. In addition to his impressive business acumen, he was a man of artistic pursuits, collecting antiques, porcelains, oriental rugs, and artwork of many different genres.

Chinese Yuan Dynasty Blue & white Auspicious Petals Porcelain Brush Washer. The porcelain potted in water pot, bell shaped body, deep curvature, wide round mouth rim, raised with ring foot base and slight concave. Hand painted ornamentations are rendered in clean white color which contrast against blue design color, depicted of auspicious rectangles petals. Blue and white porcelain in Chinese it is called Qing Hua Ci. It is the most important variety of China’s porcelain. It was originated in the Yuan Dynasty. Its color does not easily fade and durability is longer.

The underside unglazed, revealed the pale-creme ground revealed and dark greyish brown spotted firing marks and edge-cut foot rim.
