Description
1783 Philadelphia William Penn Tender Counsel QUAKER Americana + Benezet RARE

William Penn was one of the most important figures in the establishment and rise of religious freedom in the United States. After coming to Pennsylvania to advocate for freedoms, Penn’s work led to the growth of Quakerism in America. Because of his religious beliefs, Penn endured numerous bouts of persecution which inspired him to write works such as “Tender Counsel and Advice”, which taught about enduring for the sake of Christ.

This short tome includes a treatise by Anthony Benezet at the end entitled “A Short Account of the People Called Quakers”. Benezet was well-remembered for offering Quaker propaganda to the American public in hopes of encouraging others to support anti-slavery movements.
