Description
AMERICAN SCHOOL (19TH CENTURY) FOLK ART MINIATURE PORTRAIT OF A MAN, watercolor, oval depiction of a gentleman with wispy brown hair and blue eyes, wearing a pleated-front white shirt with stock and a black coat, stippled blue background, no signature located. Housed under glass in a brooch with a gold frame that tests as 14K fineness, possibly being heavy rolled gold, and a brass backing with pin fastener. Displayed in a small modern paint-decorated frame having a tan velvet-covered pin cushion center. Reportedly of Maine origin. Circa 1815. Brooch 2 1/8" x 2 3/8" OA.
Very good visual condition with losses to white paint on shirt and stock, brooch with bending to pin, glass with a chip to interior lower edge. Not examined out of brooch.
