This cotton Pennsyvania hourglass quilt is hand pieced and hand quilted, with flying geese/wild goose chase borders. The quilt dates back to the 1890-1910 era. It measures 80" X 82" and is in mint, never washed condition, with a couple of small, faint spots and no wear. There is quilting around the piecework and in grid and cable designs in the border, all at 8 stitches to the inch. The back and the machine stitched binding are the same fabric and the batting is thin. The pattern is very unusual, with each block having it's own concentric/"barn raising" configuration around the central hourglass, all surrounded by flying geese.
