Description
A Fine old carved wooden mask with well handled surface, inset teeth made of bone(?) and a red textile attached to enhance the lips. Bugle masks are designed to frighten the audience. The bugle masquerade dances and causes unrest and disorder within the community to provoke a reaction. It is believed that the bugle mask was worn in pre-war ceremonies to prepare the village for war. Dan peoples, Ivory Coast, West Africa. This mask measures 9.5 x 5.5 inches ( 13.5 inches on custom display stand which is included) * Note the old collection numbers painted on back.
