Description
Greece, near Taranto, Hellenistic Period, ca. 3rd to 2nd century BCE. A hand-built pottery vase of a near-miniature size meant as a votive object to be placed inside of a tomb. The hourglass-shaped body has a flared rim surrounding a narrow mouth, and the entire vessel rests atop a slightly flared foot. Vessels like this were perhaps filled with wine or oils for the deceased. Size: 1.25" W x 2.7" H (3.2 cm x 6.9 cm); 3.25" H (8.3 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: private Vero Beach, Florida, USA collection, purchased in 1965 from Anti Pietro, Taranto, Southern Italy

Nicks and chips to rim, body, and foot, with light encrustations, otherwise intact and very good. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
