A PAIR OF SÈVRES STYLE ORMOLU MOUNTED PARCEL GILT AND PAINTED VASES, BY BLOCH & CIE, MARKED, EARLY 20TH CENTURY, each with cobalt blue ground enameled ovoid body and twist foliate bronze finial on domed lid, with sides of raised gilt rocaille and floral sprays resting trimmed by a beaded rim on a short waisted neck flaring to a flat shoulder, centering similarly gilt decorated sides flanked by split leafy stemmed cast handles ending on sides with conforming hand painted reserves, depicting a youth in 18th century footman's attire playing bagpipes while gazing downwards to the sheet music held by his lovely courtesan belle and both seated beneath the branches of an ancient shade tree with a lute at their feet amidst a romantic verdant landscape; paired with another vase painted with a pretty 18th century maiden wearing a shepherdess costume and caressing the shoulder of her courting shepherd youth while holding a grape cluster focusing his attentions from her lap, with a resting lamb by her side while both seated beneath a similar shade tree amidst similar landscape and both signed "Henry," enclosed by elaborate stylized shell and curling leafy trellis gilding, each reversing to a neoclassical pavilion amidst tall trees and a meandering stream, on a disc form knobbed flaring stemmed base with sides of matching gilt details and ending in a beaded bronze ring, mounted on a square form plinth cast with canted corners and conforming recessed paneled sides, verso overglaze red inscribed "Made in France," and Bloch & Cie underglaze blue crossed arrows mark. Height: 16" Width: 6 3/4" Depth: 5 3/4" Note: The crossed arrows was a mark first used in 1887 by the Parisian firm of Bloch & Cie on the rue de la Pierre Lev?e. This mark was theirs until 1936 when the successor company, Porcelain de Paris took over but continued the same crossed arrows mark.
