Description
Edo period (1603-1868) Kano School Byobu screen, likely late 18th century. Six panel screen with theme of royal house and activities such as two men playing go, court ladies reading and dancing with admirers peering through the landscaping. Corners have engraved copper L bracket supports. Mounted on board and silk trimmed with phoenix and stylized flames. Reverse has stenciled geometric pattern with flower centers on paper.
Dimensions are: Single panel: 28 1/2 inches tall X 14 7/8 inches wide; 72.39 cm tall X 37.78 cm wide. Overall measurements: 28 1/2 inches tall X 87 1/2 inches wide; 72.39 cm tall X 222.25 cm wide. All measurements are approximate.
Condition: Some use wear. Some water damage in spots and loosening of paper.
