In a Mark Twain's Perforated Scrapbook, patented June 14, 1902. Published by Daniel Slote & Company. Red cover with black and gilt decoration. John M. Cragan was a municipal judge in Queens, NY when he was indicted for larceny. The 12 counts against him were for the alleged connection he played in the raise in postage stamp amounts while he was secretary under Borough President Gresser. However, the lower clerk McNally, admitted to raising the post office receipts and Cragen was released from all charges. It took the jury less than an hour to find him not guilty of any knowledge or wrongdoing of the crime. These charges did not affect his career and he continued to practice law.
