“Trial and Imprisonment of Jonathan Walker” is an account of abolitionist Jonathan Walker who was publicly branded on the palm of his right hand with the letters “S S”, for slave stealer, for attempting to transport African American slaves from Florida to the British West Indies where slavery had been abolished in 1834. After his release, Walker lectured widely about his ordeal and the anti-slavery cause publishing the pamphlet Trial and Imprisonment of Jonathan Walker.
