The document is mounted at the spine to an archival folder, measuring 10.75" x 15" overall; it could easily be removed if desired. With uneven toning throughout and flattened folds. Uneven edges and archival tape at the spine and edge folds where separations have occurred. Light soiling. Boldly signed.
John Cosin (1594-1672) was born in Norwich, England and studied at Caius College in Cambridge. He became a scholar and served as secretary to John Overall, Bishop of Lichfield, before becoming Archdeacon of the Eat Riding of Yorkshire in 1625. The month after this document was written, Cosin was appointed master of Peterhouse, Cambridge, and five years later, became Vice-Chancellor of the University. In 1660, after realizing that Auckland Castle and it's chapel had fallen into disrepair, Cosin renovated the property and converted the Great Hall into a new chapel. By December, he was consecrated Bishop of Durham and was officially enthroned on December 8, 1660.
