A gold ojime of a Noh actor
By Katsuo, Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th/early 20th century
Assuming the role of Kiyohime in the play Dojoji, the actor standing, holding a bell mallet in one hand and a tama (sacred jewel) in the other, donning a mask, his formal robe decorated with a geometric pattern; signed Katsuo. 1.9cm (¾in) high.

The story of Kiyohime and her ultimately destructive unrequited love for the priest Anchin is the subject of a Noh drama, Dojoji.
