Description
The Hishikari Gold Mine near the southern tip of Japan is a world-class gold deposit with an average grade of 40 grams per ton. In 2008 it was the only operating gold mine in that country. This sawn sample, approx. 7.5 x 2.5 x 1.5 inches, and weighing ~453.8 grams, shows the characteristic banded nature of the ore body with the high-grade material concentrated in the dark wavy feature near the edge of the specimen. The handwritten label indicates this came from the Yamada Vein with ran 4,000 grams Au. Date: Country (if not USA): JapanState: City: IsaProvenance: William Mayrsohn Collection
