1909 Wonderful "New York Harbor" Signed by Nat Lowell Original Etching The New York Trust Company Presented
1909-Dated Signed Original Etching on Paper titled, "New York Harbor" by artist Nat Lowell (1880 - 1956), with Statute of Liberty, Framed, Choice Extremely Fine.
This impressive etching on paper features the prominent Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor in the foreground and the skyline of Manhattan and the Brooklyn Bridge in the background. Signed by the artist "Nat Lowell" and titled and dated in pencil in the lower margin. The etched plate measures 9.5" x 12.25" amd is printed on larger stock that measures 10.25" x 13" (by sight). Matted and simplely black painted wood framed under Plexiglass to an overall size of 16.75" x 19.25". On the back is a small paper slip printed with "Original Etching Presented by The New York Trust Company."
Born in Riga, Latvia, Nat Lowell emigrated to New York City and studied at the Art Students League with Carroll Beckwith, Gutzon Borglum, and Siddons Mowbray. He is best known for his detailed etchings of New York City and its landmarks.
The New York Trust Company was a large trust and wholesale-banking business that specialized in servicing large industrial accounts. It merged with the Chemical Corn Exchange Bank and eventually the merged entity became Chemical Bank.
