Title: 1850s Ukiyo-e Utagawa Kunisada II Woodblock Print Samurai Warrior
Description: This is an antique ukiyo-e or Japanese woodblock print from around the 1850s. This print was designed by Utagawa Kunisada II, one of the heads of the Utagawa school, which housed many prolific masters of the art including Toyokuni III and Kuniyoshi. This print shows a warrior man, maybe a samurai, with two swords. The man is likely a historical figure or character in a legend or myth.
Signed: Kunisada ga (art by Kunisada) lower left side of paper. Near artist sig is publisher sig for Tsutaya Kichizo.
Circa: 1850s
Dimensions: 14.875x9.875 inches.
Condition: some toning on paper, light wear to outer edges. Some small areas of insect damage, shown in photos. No significant rips, tears, creases, foxing, pinholes, etc.
Provenance: From the estate of a local retiree, whose grandfather collected Ukiyo-e prints throughout the 1930s.
