Description
Fell 6000-4000 years BP. A nickel-iron coarse octahedrite (IAB) meteorite specimen; found Chaco Province, Argentina; held in a transparent lidded collector's case. See Graham, Bevan and Hutchison ed., Catalogue of Meteorites, Natural History Museum, 1985, p.88, for details of this fall. 6.1 grams total, 32mm including case (1 1/4"). Property of an East Sussex, UK, teacher; previously with Jack LaCroix, Geodes Etc., New York, USA; accompanied by a collector's information card. The mass discovered in 1576 weighed over 1000 kgs. It was rediscovered in 1803, and a large proportion of it was collected by the Natural History Museum in London. Locally to the fall site, the meteorite was known as 'Otumpa'. [No Reserve]
