1. VITTORIO SELLA. Kangchenjunga (telephoto at 17 km Distance), 1899, Sella number HS 54. 6.9x8.6" collodion print, printed 1901, mounted on 10x12" heavy brown board. Embossed with Vittorio Sella stamp in lower right of print. Inscribed in black ink on mount recto: Kangchenjinga [sic] (telephoto at 17 km Distance). Inscribed in pencil mount verso: 54 / HS 54. Alternate published title is The Cliffs of Kangchenjunga p. 114

2. VITTORIO SELLA. Kangchenjunga and Pandim (telephoto at distance of 60 km), 1899, Sella number HS 8. 6.7x9" collodion print, printed 1901, mounted on 10x12" heavy brown board. Embossed with Vittorio Sella stamp in lower right of print. Inscribed in black ink on mount recto: Kangchenjinga [sic] (telephoto distance of 60 k.m.); above print on mount letter P above Pandim and letter K above Kangchenjunga Inscribed in pencil mount verso: 8 / HS 8.

Before Ansel Adams was born, Vittorio Sella was celebrating the sublime emotive aspects of grand landscape photography. Here Sella photographs the mount that the expedition planned to circumnavigate and potentially climb some peaks. Heavy rains prevented the climb of the high peaks.

Kangchenjunga 8,586 m 28,169 ft. is the third highest peak on planet Earth and lies in the Kangchenjunga Himal straddling Nepal and Sikkim, India with 3 of the 5 peaks on the border. Contains 16 peaks over 7,000 m (23,000 ft.). It is 78 miles 125 km east-southeast of Mt. Everest. It is 45 miles north of Darjiling. The western side is from Jonsong La down the Gingsang and Kangchenjunga glaciers and the rivers of Ghunsa and Tamur. South of the southern face of Kangchenjunga the Singalila Ridge separating Sikkim from Nepal.

It has five major peaks, Kangchenjunga Main 8,586 m 28,169 ft., Kangchenjunga West/Yalung Kang 8,505 m 27,904 ft, Kangchenjunga Central 8,482 m 27, 828 ft., Kangchenjunga South 8,494 m, 27,867 ft and Kangbachen 7,903 m 25,928 ft.

Kangchenjunga is roughly bound on the west side is the Tamur River, the north the Lhonak Chu (River) and Jonsong La (Peak), the is the Teesta River.

Pandim is in Sikkim, India 6,691 m 21,952 ft., southeast of Kangchenjunga.
Condition
1. HS 54 Very Good on print, minor wear, corner and edge wear, mount recto and verso are poor and is fragile with broken and torn pieces and corners and other marks and tape marks.

2. HS Excellent: Minor wear and abrasions, corner and edge wear, Mount had corner and edge wear mount verso has tape marks and is dirty.
