Ehrenberg's "Texas und Seine Revolution," first published Leipzig 1843, with the second edition the following year, titled "Der Freiheitskampf in Texas in Jahre 1836." The author, a German private in the New Orleans Greys, was one of the few to escape the Goliad Massacre. He went on to write perhaps the best first-hand account of the Texas Revolution, to make the first official U.S. map of the Gadsden Purchase, and to found the town of Ehrenberg, Arizona. He met his death at the hands of Native Americans in 1866.
