Description
Ancient Near East, Holy Land, late Byzantine Empire to early Medieval Period, ca. 8th to early 13th century CE. A slender female figure, hand-carved from bovine or ungulate bone, standing with delineated legs atop an integral plinth. The woman presents wearing a knee-length skirt with a slightly twisted upper section and holds both hands in a praying position in front of her abdomen; she appears to hold an object beneath her left arm. Her wide-eyed countenance features thick lips, a slender nose, and a simple coiffure that drapes to the back of her neck. Size: 0.375" W x 2.4" H (1 cm x 6.1 cm)
