Description
Louis XVI gilt bronze cartel clock, fourth quarter 18th century, Jean Baptiste Baillon (French d. 1796, maître 1745), the case overall with classical motifs and berry-accented foliate garland swags, the pediment surmounted with an urn finial, two foliate finials above the columns, the white enamel dial with Roman and Arabic numerals to the chapter ring and two wind holes, dial signed “Jn Baptiste Baillon”. 32.5” H x 16” W x 4.75” D. Note: A similar example sold Doyle New York Jun 27, 2019 lot 380. Other examples of Baillon’s work are in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (89.2.67a, b). Provenance: Property from the estate of Arnold Neustadter, inventor of the Rolodex.
