Notes from Larry and Jane Schlachter on acquiring this chest: The sugar chest is from Dekalb County, Alabama near Ft Payne and was in the home of Rueben Lyons. He was a colorful Chattooga County sheriff here in the 1940s and 50s. The sugar chest was from his mother's side of the family. Unusually small size, two separate piece construction. It took over 20 years to finally buy this chest. A local antique dealer that sold special pieces to Jane's mother, told her where it was before he died. He said that it was the nicest sugar chest he had seen, but could never buy it.
