Description
Middle Tennessee Plantation Cherry Sugar Chest 1820-1830. From an old Shelby county Tennessee family. A scarce tall form with turned Legs that extend down from the bottom of the case 17 1/2". The secondary wood is tulip poplar. The interior has two dividers and is separated into three equal compartments measuring approximately 10 3/4" Wide X 15 7/8" Deep X 11 1/2" High. The compartments separated the brown and white sugar cones and the third compartment was for coffee, liquor or spices. This piece has two drawers below the chest with 19th Century glass knobs. The chest measures 36 1/4" High X 37 1/8" Wide X 18 3/8" Deep. Condition - Overall good condition. Repair to lid at left hinge 1" X 6" Long. Two small repairs to lid Approx. 3/4" X 1". One drawer has been rebuilt, the front looks original. The right front leg has repair to chip from turn. Some very old insect damage. See photos.
