10th President of the United States, the document is President Tyler's request for the safe passage of the whaling ship Abraham H. Howland and her Master Washington T. Walker out of New Bedford, Mass., conveyed in English, French, Spanish, and Dutch in four side-by-side columns, prepared by a New Bedford Notary Public, signed by Tyler at right, and countersigned by Secretary of State Abel Upshur, saw-tooth presidential seal intact, mounted and framed together with a lithographed photo image of President Tyler, very light folds and fading, document sight 15.25x20.5in., overall framed 23x34.5in.
