Founding Father Daniel of St. Thomas Jenifer Autograph Document Signed

1p, measuring 12.25" x 7.25", no place, dated August 11, 1789. A handwritten document recording the accounts in the settlement of an estate, addressed to Messrs Stone and Brown, the Executors of Thos. Stone Esquire. For the period of May 30, 1788 to June 1789. Document has flattened folds, with some chipping and holes at folds that have been repaired with archival tape. Paper loss at the edges, possibly from a broken seal. Uneven toning, soiling, and foxing throughout. Boldly signed by Jenifer.

Daniel of St. Thomas Jenifer (1723-1790) was a Founding Father and signer of the Constitution. He had been deeply involved in Maryland's colonial government, but joined the Patriot cause when tensions with Great Britain arose. He became the president of the state's Council of Safety, and organized and oversaw Maryland's military forces during the Revolution. Jenifer was also close friends with Benjamin Franklin, and the two men were some of the oldest delegates at the Constitutional Convention. Jenifer passed away just one year after this document was signed, and is buried at his birth place, Ellerslie.
