Harry Wright PSA Slabbed Signed Scorecard, Founding Father of Baseball
Sports card
A baseball scorecard filled out and signed by Harry Wright. 2pp (front and back), Buffalo, dated September 15, 1885. Signed "H.W." as Scorer. Filled out in pencil entirely in Wright's hand, for a contest between Philadelphia and Buffalo. With player names, along with completed scoring grids and additional markings. Taken from Wright?s personal scorebook, the upper edge of the card is rough and uneven. With light soiling and toning at the edges. Minor bumping to the corners. With his passing in 1895, Wright has one of the most scarce and desirable Hall of Fame signatures. Encapsulated and PSA/DNA certified. Measuring 6.5" x 4", with the slab measures 10.25" x 6.75" overall.
Accompanied by a Harry Wright postcard. Perez-Steele Galleries, 1980. Card 70, Third Series, Set No. 09599/10,000.
William Henry "Harry" Wright (1835-1895) was an English-born professional baseball player, manager, and a key figure in the development of the sport. One of the true pioneers of the early game, Wright played center field for the first all-professional team, the 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings. He is also credited with designing the standard baseball uniform and engineering the box scoring system, which is wonderfully represented here.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
