Description
Chelsea Clock Co., Boston, Mass., early WWII "U.S. ARMY CLOCK, MESSAGE CENTER, M1" clock with 4 1/2" painted brass dial, painted brass hands with painted aluminum sweep seconds hand and secondary red hour hand for Greenwich Mean Time. The 8 day, time only, spring driven Model 13E movement is stamped with serial #298413 and the same number is stamped into the rear of the case. The manufacturing index in Chelsea Clock Company, The First 100 Years (2nd Ed.) dates the movement's manufacture to January, 1942.
Condition
Oxidized brass case with some minor porosity. The white paint in the engraved U.S. Army lettering is missing. The luminous white paint on the Seconds hand has degraded. The luminous paint on the hour hand and the spots at the five minute markers are missing. The movement is ticking.
