Description
Chelsea Clock Co./American Steam Guage Co., Boston, Mass., wall clock, polished brass hinged case on custom wooden stand, blued steel hands with a compensating minute hand, 12 in. painted metal dial with roman numerals, 8 day, time only, spring driven movement, case (interior plate) serial #135650 and movement serial #132668.
Condition
Serial number 135650 is stamped on the machine engraved plate screwed to the interior of the hinged case. This number in the factory sales ledger indicates a Model "B" (Recording Steam Guage) movement sold to the "American Steam Guage Co." on "August 4, 1920." Behind the plate there is likely an inlet hole for a pressurerized pipe. The repainted zinc dial appears to be a replacement with additional mounting holes that do not align with the case pillars and the Model E (#132668) movement is held in place with newer steel clips. The factory number on this movement indicates it was originally housed in a clock sold to Cincinnati Jeweler, "Loring Andrews & Co." and shipped on "Nov. 12, 1919." The Regulator Pointer is missing.
