Doolittle Raiders. The Doolittle Raid was an air raid on April 18, 1942 by the United State. Lead by General James Doolittle on the Japanese capital Tokyo and other places on Honshu during World War II. It was the first air operation to strike the Japanese archipelago.10” x 8” black and white photograph of an aircraft leaving a carrier, signed by three participants: “To – Alan Kendrick Edward Saylor #15,” Edward Saylor (1920-2015) he was the flight engineer for Crew#15, “RE Cole #1” Richard E. Cole (1915-2019) he served as the co-pilot to Jimmy Doolittle in the lead airplane of the raid and “David J. Thatcher # 7” David J. Thatcher (1921-2016) he was the engineer-gunner on the 7th B-25 to take off from the aircraft carrier USS Hornet.
