**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, Ameca-Etzatlan type, Protoclassic Period, ca. 100 BCE to 250 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished pottery male figure seated with one leg tucked beneath the other and both arms resting on the bent knee. The nude, red-painted figure leans slightly forward and presents muscular arms and broad shoulders. White kaolin pigment covers his face and provides a ground for black pigment across his eyes and mouth, and ring-adorned ears protrude from beneath a backswept, vertically striated coiffure. Size: 4.75" W x 7.375" H (12.1 cm x 18.7 cm)

Chipping to pigment across most surfaces, with light encrustations within some recessed areas, otherwise intact and very good. Great remains of white, red, and black pigment. Old inventory label beneath base.
