Description
**Originally Listed At $800**
Pre-Columbian, Ecuador/Colombia, Carchi-Narino region, ca. 750 to 1500 CE. A rare, fascinating, ceramic sculpture of a seated coca chewer. She sits with her legs straight out ahead of her, dressed in a geometrically-patterned, floor-length skirt, with only her feet peeking out from underneath it. She has her hands resting on her hips and leans forward slightly. Her face is painted with a single straight line across the top of her upper lip, perhaps representing a tattoo. Her hair is depicted as a smooth sheet, painted black, that flows down from her head to rest upon her shoulders. Her mouth is pursed and her eyes bulge, emphasizing that she is in the act of using the drug, probably to enter a religious/shamanic state. Size: 4" W x 6.15" H (10.2 cm x 15.6 cm)
Provenance: ex-private Hans Juergen Westermann collection, Germany, collected from 1950-1960s
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
