Description
**Originally Listed At $650**
Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chancay culture, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A wonderful doll with bound plant fibers comprising the interior structure and clothing made from tightly-woven camelid (alpaca or llama wool) fibers in hues of crimson, marigold, fuchsia, cobalt, cream, and coffee. The figure stands atop a pair of slender legs, wears a colorful red-and-yellow dress adorned with abstract mirrored birds, and has a twisted blue-and-white belt knotted across the midsection. The head is covered by a thin textile mask with red, yellow, and pink geometric panels that, together with a petite mouth and diamond-shaped eyes, create an expressive visage. The head is covered by a gauze-like veil in light and dark brown hues, and the elegant coiffure drapes to her shoulder blades. An attractive example of a child's doll from ancient Peru!
