William S. Green (American, active in mid 20th century). "Horseshoe Park, Rocky Mountain National Park, Fall River Meadows" - oil on board, 1956. Signed "William S. Green 3-56" on lower right. A striking landscape painting of Horseshoe Park - home to bighorn sheep, elk, and other wild life in Rocky Mountain National Park - by Colorado artist William S. Green, an artist who adored the Rockies and worked in an Impressionist style. The composition features golden Aspen trees flanking a path to Fall River Meadows with the Rockie's blue-ridged mountain peaks in the distance. A fabulous Colorado scene with a wonderful atmospheric quality, set in its original frame. Born in Central City, Colorado, Green was the president of the Denver Artist's Guild from 1962 to 1963, serving as chairman of exhibitions and showing paintings for many years. His landscapes are perhaps best known for also appearing in the Cocks-Clark Engraving Company calendars for about twenty years.
