9 photographs. Sizes range from 6x4" to 7½x4½".

The U. S. S. Ranger was commissioned to be a survey vessel in 1890 and used to survey sites along the lower coast of California which resulted in the book The Methods and Results of The Survey of the West Coast of Lower California by the Officers of the U. S. S. 'Ranger' during the season of 1899 and 1900. Four of the cards have identifications on the back; two others are identified with typed notes taken from the identifications on duplicate cards. The photographs with no captions are the Hotel del Coronado under construction, a coastal view with a ship in the background, and a cabinet card portrait of Lt. Oswin W. Lowry taken by Taber, San Francisco.
