Kurt Gunnar Brusewitz (Swedish, 1924 - 2004)
Kurt Gunnar Brusewitz, born October 7, 1924 in Ekero, Stockholm County, died July 10, 2004 in Lisinge near Rimbo in Stockholm County, was a Swedish writer, artist and cartoonist. He was the son of Bureau Secretary Per Emil Brusewitz and Fanny Andersson.
He came from a family with artistic traditions and already aroused in him an interest in nature. He attended Viggbyholmsskolan and then studied in Strangnas, but his art and nature interest caused his studies to suffer.
Brusewitz studied sculpture, painting and graphics in 1941-45, as well as at the Royal Academy of Free Arts in 1949. He was an employee of the Stockholm Magazine , Svenska Dagbladet and Upsala Nya Tidning . He was also an employee of Sweden's Radio-TV, where he mainly made nature films and participated in the classic nature programs from Korsnasgarden from 1968, when he succeeded the artist Harald Wiberg. He has also illustrated stamps and books by Frans G Bengtsson and an edition by Carl von Linnesadministration travels. Brusewitz published a number of books, mainly with the nature and culture themes, with his own illustrations. In 1980 he participated as an artist in the Swedish polar expedition Ymer-80 with the icebreaker Ymer. The following year he published his impressions from the trip in the book "Arctic summer".
Brusewitz designed the diploma for the Nobel Prize in Literature between 1963 and 1988.
He has had separate exhibitions in London, Helsinki, Rauma, Reykjavik, Melbourne, Mainau, Chicago, San Francisco , Philadelphia and exhibitions at the Natural History Museum, the Maritime Museum and the Stockholm City Museum . He is represented at the National Museum and the Kalmar Art Museum.
Brusewitz's memoirs include the three volumes The Children of Libra (1994), The Impatient Pen (1996) and Recorded and Written (1998).
He was named honorary doctor at Stockholm University in 1982.
