BIOGRAPHY:
Louis J. Endres was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1896, studied art in the Cincinnati Art Academy.In 1920 Won a Tiffany scholarship to study in Oyster Bay, Long Island, New York.From 1924 to 1925 he continues his studies in Paris with Castelucho at the Academy de " La Grande Chaumiere" and becomes art professor at the Cincinnati Art Academy.From 1926 to 1931 he travels to Algiers and Morocco where he opens his studious; made exposition in the Cincinnati Art Museum; opens studio at "Passy" in Paris in 1928.In 1931 he moves to Rabat, and opens his new studio. He becomes known as the American artist of North Africa, and is commissioned to execute portraits and typical Moroccan scenes.In 1935 his art work is greatly appreciated during an exposition of "Les peintres d'Afrique du Nord, exposition which is inaugurated by Albert Lebrun at the "Musee des Arts Decoratifs, Palais du Louvre"From 1939 to 1944 he lives through the 2nd WW, as a US citizen in a French Protectorate, governed by Vichy.In 1947 receives an order from the Moroccan government to create a "Diorama of the Grand Atlas", which will be exposed in Bordeaux.Year later he receives another order for a "Diorama of Tizi n'Test" for an exposition in Stasbourg.In 1950 His "Diorama du Moyen Atlas" is presented at the "Exposition Internationale Francaise".In 1952 His paintings are acquired by his Highness S.A. The Sultan Sidi Mohammed V of Morocco.In 1961 President Eisenhower purchases a painting of a Moroccan subject painted by an American from Cincinnati Ohio.In 1962 artist moves to Rome, Italy, and sets up his new studio at the Villa Albani and exposes in the US embassy at the Via Veneto.Year later moves to Lausanne, in Switzerland, his first studio at Chamblandes and then at Florybel and Maupas.Louis J. Endres died in his last studio in 1989.
