1848 BEST ed Doniphan’s Expedition Mexican American Missouri Cavalry California
Alexander Doniphan was a 19th-century American politician and soldier who, in 1846, led troops in the Mexican-American War. A native of Missouri, Doniphan was called out of Missouri to lead an invasion on modern day New Mexico and California. This expedition caused the team to encounter Navajo and Apache people on the way to what would become known as the Battle of El Brazito and Battle of the Sacramento River.
Author John Hughes published an account of Doniphan’s military exploits in Mexico under the title “Doniphan’s Expedition”. This edition was published in 1848, known to be the best edition according to Howes. The primary source on the Missouri Cavalry in the Mexican-American War.

Pvt. John H. Wright was a Union solider who served with the 1st Ohio Heavy Artillery Regiment, B Company in the American Civil War.
The 1st Ohio Heavy Artillery Regiment was originally organized at Portsmouth, Ohio on September 15, 1862 as the 117th Ohio Infantry. The regiment was changed to heavy artillery on May 2, 1863.
The regiment was attached to 2nd Brigade, 4th Division, XXIII Corps, Department of the Ohio, to February 1865. 1st Brigade, 4th Division, District of East Tennessee, Department of the Cumberland, to July 1865.
The 1st Ohio Heavy Artillery mustered out of service on July 25, 1865 at Knoxville, Tennessee.
