Description
Pair of Sevres Style Vases and Covers with Gilt Bronze Mounts. The baluster form bodies over faux jewel-inset ankles, above rounded scalloped bases, atop flat canted square plinths. The sides with applied elongated handles terminating in curled foliate scrolls. The covers with pinecone-form gilt knops; with gitl bronze applied decoration above knops. Cobalt blue bodies with extensive gilt ovulos enclosing faux pearl band, enclosing painted cartouches of intimate friends and lovers in rustic and grotto settings; versos painted with extensive bouquets on celadon grounds. Underglaze blue interlace L marks to undersides of each. Possibly French. Circa 1860. 17 3/4" H., 9" W. from handle to handle. Bases 4 1/4" square. Property from the Estate of Arthur Thomson, San Francisco, CA. One cover broken and professional reglued and overpainted. One foliate terminate to handle with firing crack. The original parcel gilding to the handles, ribs at neck and base, mostly absent.
